Etched Glass Font Oil Lamp and Shade
This beautiful etched glass font lamp is in the same style as some American lamps from the 1860s and 1870s. This one however, is Bohemian and dates to the first quarter of the 20th century. It is much larger than those earlier kerosene lamps. In fact, it is similar in size to some of the smaller banquet lamps.
The pear shaped font has been delicately and intricately cut and etched with floral motifs and garlands of leaves.
To add to the grandeur of this kerosene lamp, the base is constructed of two layers of stepped marble with a patterned brass break in between. The style and proportions of the reeded brass stem compliment both the base and font perfectly.
The etched and frosted shade is almost certainly older than the lamp and is most likely to have been from a gas lamp. That said, the shade is a very good match for the lamp with it’s similar foliate design engraving and large proportions.
This lovely etched glass font oil lamp is fitted with a new burner, wick, shade holder and chimney.
Condition
Overall, this elegant kerosene lamp and shade is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or damage of any kind. There are some very minor wear marks on the underside of the base but this is nothing more than you would expect for its age and usage.
This lovely etched glass font oil lamp and shade will be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
