Antique Stand Lamp circa 1880s
Antique stand lamps or composite lamps like this one were most popular between 1880 and 1900.
Being cheap to make, attractive oil lamps were affordable for everyone.
The font on this antique stand lamp has an extended brass collar and the glass has been roughened on a lathe to create a frosted effect. These are typical of kerosene lamps made in the early part of the 1880s.
The stem itself is bright blue glass with a hand painted floral motif. These stems were made in large quantities in different colours and with different motifs (see also Kerosene Stand Lamp).
The embossed brass connectors add a nice touch and go well with the black painted cast iron base.
The lamp is fitted with a new burner and chimney.
