This Barrie patent oil lamp is unique in many ways.

In particular is the method used to attach the font to the base. Samuel Barrie patented this on 24th August 1875 and the date is moulded into the underside of the font. The bolt and “handle” arrangement is easy to use and very ingenious.

It is rare these days to find a Barrie patent oil lamp that is still complete with the original fixings.

The separate filler is another less commonly seen refinement. The original cap is still present and it screws in and out easily.

The stem and base are both cast iron. The base is painted black and the stem is raw cast iron that has been lacquered for protection.

It is fitted with a vintage burner, a new wick and a new chimney.

This simple little kerosene lamp is in excellent condition.

Even though the Barrie patent oil lamp is one of the smaller antique oil lamps, it will still look great in a den or office.

Height to the top of the burner – 23cm (9″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 39cm (15.5″)

Diameter of the font – 12cm (4.75″)
