Cast Iron Base Lamp dated 1870
There are a number things that set this antique cast iron base kerosene lamp apart from others of this type.
The obvious difference is the nickel collar. The vast majority have brass collars which were cheaper to produce.
The next most noticeable thing is the style of the base. Whilst it is still a two part base, round stems were more commonly mounted onto a round, hexagonal or octagonal foot rather than a square one like this.
There is no doubt though that the cast iron base sections are original to each other as they both have identical 1870 patent dates on the undersides.
Overall this antique oil lamp is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or damage of any kind and is sure to be a welcome addition to your home or your collection.
