Composite Kerosene Lamp
There is something slightly whimsical about the style of the hand painting on the stem of this antique composite kerosene lamp.
The stem section is made from opaque white glass. It has then been hand painted with a pastel green background, green foliage and a small white and brown bird in flight.
The font is a simple design that has been roughened on a lathe to produce a frosted finish on the higher parts of the glass. This form of font and the wide, shouldered collar were most commonly seen in the earlier composite kerosene lamps of the 1870s. The existence of air bubbles within the glass of the font further reinforces this dating.
The antique oil lamp is fitted with a vintage burner, a new wick and a new chimney.
The simple font, black painted cast iron base and the brass connectors of the oil lamp really enhance the stem section, allowing it to stand out and become the engaging focal point.
This composite kerosene lamp is sure to be an attractive addition to any home.
