This antique composite kerosene lamp features a reverse painted stem with a “Zigzag & Diamond” font and black painted cast iron base.

Oil lamps with reverse painted stems were popular during the 1880s – 1900s. The stem section is clear glass with paint applied to the inner surface to create the finish. In this case it has a light coloured stone or marble effect.

The brass collar is stamped with an 1876 patent date though it is more likely that the oil lamp dates to the 1890s.

Height to the top of the burner – 35.5cm (14″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 57cm (22.5″)

Diameter of the font – 14cm (5.5″)
