Shield and Star Pattern Oil Lamp
The decorative pattern on the font of this antique oil lamp is called Shield and Star and it is quite obvious why. It was most likely produced during the years of the American civil war (1861-1865) so it is not surprising to see such a patriotic design.
This dating is reinforced by the style of the brass stem and marble base. This is a characteristic most commonly seen in very early kerosene lamps.
Surprisingly for a lamp from this period, it has very few air bubbles or straw marks within the glass. The brass stem and marble base are also well preserved with only a couple of small fleabites on the bottom edges of the marble. There are no splits or cracks in the brass.
A vintage burner with a new wick and chimney complete this lovely antique oil lamp.
Overall, this Shield and Star pattern antique oil lamp is in excellent condition and will be a wonderful addition to your home or collection.
