The hand painted winter scene on the stem of this antique composite lamp is similar to those painted by Mary Gregory during her time with the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in the early 1880s. It does, however, lack the quality and detail of her work.

There were several companies that were quick to see the popularity and appeal of her art and produced similar styles at a more affordable price. This composite lamp is likely to be one of those and would date to the 1890s.

The stem section is made from opaque white glass. It has then been hand painted with a dusky pink background and a scene showing a snow bound cabin in a mountain landscape.

The oil lamp has a black painted, cast iron base.

The clear pressed glass font is the very popular “Zigzag and Diamond” pattern. As expected in glass from that period, there are a couple of air bubbles within the glass of the font and it also has a slight sun purpled tinge.

The kerosene lamp is fitted with a new burner and chimney.

Height to the top of the burner – 37cm (14.5″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 58cm (23″)

Diameter of the font – 15cm (6″)
