Cherub Oil Lamp circa 1870
This figural cherub oil lamp is one of the earlier styles and would date to around 1870.
The brass caps that cover the entire top and bottom of the font along with the roughened and cut glass are definite indicators of this period.
The style is also very similar to oil lamps made by J. F. Iden & Co. but the inside base of the font doesn’t have the name embossed into it as would be expected for one of theirs.
The base is green-grey soapstone (slate) that has been given a coat of lacquer to protect the surface.
A new embossed burner with a new wick and beaded top chimney completes this lovely cherub oil lamp.
This antique kerosene lamp is in very good to excellent condition and will make a lovely addition to your home or collection.
Height to the top of the burner – 34cm (13.5″)
Height to the top of the chimney – 52cm (20.5″)
Diameter of the font – 11cm (4.5″)
Width of the base – 12cm (4.75″)
