Panelled Font Figural Oil Lamp

Thanks to the 1867 and 1873 patent dates stamped into the collar on this figural oil lamp, we can be sure of its age.

The frosted panel font with the quatrefoil cut to clear design reinforces this dating as does the figural stem itself.

Figural oil lamps such as this one were popular in the United States from the mid 1860s through to the 1880s. The panelled font like this lamp has is from the earlier period.

The base is cast iron with a black painted finish.

The figural stem itself may have been refinished at some time in the past.

The vintage burner is in good working order and has been fitted with a new wick.

The beaded top chimney is also new.

The lamp leans backward slightly but this is as it was made and only mentioned for accuracy.

Overall, this lovely antique kerosene lamp is in excellent condition and is sure to become a favourite.
