This spelter figurine lamp would have been produced during the 1870s. Whilst figural oil lamps were popular from around 1865 until the 1880s, this one has the extended shoulder on the collar that was more commonly seen in the 1870s.

The moulding of the figure is quite detailed. Her facial features are well defined as is her hair. The way it cascades down her back is full of life.

Originally, it is most likely that the figure would have had an applied bronze, gold or silver finish. Unfortunately, this one, like so many of these spelter figurine lamps, has lost its original finish. Sometimes the loss of the original finish was due to over zealous polishing but regular handling over a period of time is the more likely cause. With this figure, the spelter has been lightly polished and then lacquered to protect it.

The roughened font is a very simple design but it has a classical look that compliments the figure nicely.

The base is green-grey soapstone (slate) with a pad of felt on the underside to protect any surface it is placed on.

A vintage burner and new chimney completes this lovely antique spelter figurine lamp.

The lamp is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or damage.

Height to the top of the burner – 35.5cm (14″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 54.5cm (21.5″)

Diameter of the font – 14cm (5.5″)

Width of the base – 11.5cm (4.5″)
