The pattern of this Atterbury oil lamp is known as Hero and it was shown in the company’s 1874 catalogue.

Atterbury & Co. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was one of the leading glass and lamp manufacturers of the kerosene era. Over one hundred patents for glass and lamp production and design were recorded by Thomas Atterbury.

This Atterbury oil lamp is quite a large lamp and very well made. The top of the font has been hand drawn into the collar and the quality of the workmanship is exceptional. The top is smooth and blemish free showing that it was made by a very skilled artisan. The opaque white base is lead glass and has a lovely ring when struck.

Condition

The only blemish we can see on this antique Atterbury oil lamp is a short, thin line of discoloured glass in the base. We are quite certain this is as it was made. All the brass ware is in excellent undamaged condition, as is the glass itself.

Finally, the lamp is fitted with a new burner and a new chimney.

Undoubtedly, this antique Atterbury oil lamp will be a welcome addition to both your home and your collection.
