Ava Glass Lamp circa 1893
This Ava glass lamp with Diamond Base is one of the smaller stand lamps. The pattern is very delicate and feminine which suits its diminutive size.
The lamp is shown on page 263 fig. (l) of Catherine Thuro’s first book “Oil Lamps – The Kerosene Era in North America”. A reproduced United States Glass Company catalogue page from 1893 / 1909 on page 321 of the same book also shows that the Ava glass lamp font pattern was available as a finger lamp.
The lamp has manufacturing straw marks and small air bubbles in both the font and the base which point to it being produced in the 1880s – 1890s rather than into the 1900s.
The antique oil lamp is fitted with a vintage burner and a new chimney. A new wick will also be fitted.
This petite little Ava glass lamp with Diamond Base is in very good to excellent condition and would be ideal for use in a bedroom.
Height to the top of the burner – 23cm (9″)
Height to the top of the chimney – 39cm (15.25″)
Diameter of the font – 11cm (4.25″)
Diameter of the base – 11cm (4.25″)
