The shape and style of this clear glass kerosene finger lamp is very similar to the green Depression glass lamps we have handled in the past. Like those, the font design has two faceted bands with a waisted panel below each band and an applied handle. However, that is where the similarities end.

This kerosene finger lamp is larger overall and the applied handle is much more robust. As a result, there is plenty of room to grasp it securely. The surface of the glass has a slight “orange peel” effect and the angular edges are not as clearly defined.

Taking into consideration these differences and the style of the brass collar fitted to the lamp, we believe that this clear glass finger lamp dates to the 1940s. It is also very likely that it was made here in Australia.

Condition

Overall, the lamp is in excellent condition. It has the expected shelf wear evident on the base which is commensurate with its age and usage. Apart from that there are no chips, cracks or damage of any kind.

Finally, the oil lamp is fitted with a vintage burner and a new wick and chimney.

We are sure this lovely little clear glass kerosene finger lamp will be a welcome addition to your home or collection.
