This is a lovely little hand painted oil lamp from around 1905 when this form of decoration was popular.

The glass pattern is called “Serrated Loop” and the lamp was available in a range of sizes. It was also available in plain clear glass or decorated as this one is.

The decorated lamps had frosted fonts which were then hand painted with a single flower on each panel and a tinted background.

This hand painted oil lamp has a red tint with blue flowers. More commonly, we have seen these kerosene lamps with a green tinted background and red flowers on the panels.

The collar is a clinch type collar that didn’t need to be cemented in place. Unfortunately, they are prone to developing stress splits and this one is no exception. As you can see in the photos, there is one small slit in the collar but it is still very firmly fixed to the font and is not in the least bit loose.

The hand painted oil lamp is fitted with a vintage burner and a new chimney.

Apart from the collar, the kerosene lamp is in excellent condition without any chips or cracks and would be ideal as a bedroom or living room lamp.

Height to the top of the burner – 25cm (10″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 41cm (16″)

Diameter of the font – 11cm (4.5″)

Diameter of the base – 11cm (4.5″)
