Pair of Sewing Lamps c.1900
This pair of antique sewing lamps are identical in size and design but they show slight differences in the moulded pattern and glass colour with one having a slight yellow / green tinge. Also, whilst both oil lamps glow under UV light, one of the them glows much brighter than the other.
Both lamps have straw marks and bubbles in the glass and the font and base sections were moulded separately then joined with a glass wafer. These things, coupled with the type of collar, lead us to believe that they were manufactured between the mid 1890s and 1910.
The large bulge chimneys also have some age to them. The “Owl & Wreath” etched decorations have mostly worn away but the original design can still be seen.
Both lamps are fitted with vintage burners with new wicks.
These sewing lamps are in very good condition and are sure to become a talking point in your home.
Height to the top of the burner – 29cm (11.5″)
Height to the top of the chimney – 48cm (19″)
Width of the font (square) – 17cm (6.75″)
