As yet, we haven’t been able to identify the maker of this little ribbed glass antique oil lamp.

It has a simple design with horizontal ribs around the font, a plain stem and radiating ribs or icicles on the base.

The same lamp is shown on page 89 fig.(g) of Catherine Thuro’s first book “Oil Lamps – The Kerosene Era in North America”. She dates this and similar ribbed glass lamps to the 1860s.This antique kerosene lamp is fitted with a vintage burner which is in good working order. A new wick and chimney are included.

There are very few air bubbles within the glass and only a couple of minor manufacturing blemishes.

Overall, the lamp is in very good condition but it does have a rough mark across the top of the foot. It is difficult to determine whether the mark was caused during manufacture or if it is a scratch. It is certainly only on the upper surface and is not a crack or chip.

This pretty little ribbed glass lamp will look lovely on a mantlepiece, sideboard or even in the bedroom.

Height to the top of the burner – 23cm (9″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 39cm (15.25″)

Diameter of the font – 11.5cm (4.5″)
