Antique Girandoles Circa 1840s – 1850s
This set of antique, cast bronze figural girandoles date from the 1840s – 1850s.
The set comprises a three candle centrepiece with two single candle side pieces.
All three figures are the same, depicting a woman and a young girl, probably mother and daughter, filling their water jug from a spring or perhaps a well.
The figures have nice soft detailing which compliments the feminine theme.
The marble bases are in good condition given their age. They have some fleabites around the edges and a couple of small chips on the corners. None of these things are particularly obvious and only mentioned for accuracy.
The original hand cut square nuts are still in place too.
This lovely set of antique girandoles is completed with replacement hanging prisms.
The centrepiece measures 41cm (16″) tall by 42cm (16.5″) wide and is 10cm (4″) deep.
Each of the side pieces measure 38cm (15″) tall by 14cm (5.5″) wide and are 9cm (3.5″) deep.
This shallow, linear arrangement allows the girandoles to sit easily on a mantlepiece. They are designed to sit in front of a large mirror so that the light output is doubled. The light catching on the prisms adds to the overall light output and certainly adds to the grandeur of this set of antique girandoles.
