Original Kerosene Parlor Lamp
This antique, original and fully matching kerosene parlor lamp or “Gone with the Wind” lamp is very appealing.
The hand painted floral decorations are different to many in both the subject matter and the colours used.
This is the first time we have seen fuchsias on a lamp of this kind and the burgundy and purple colours are also less commonly seen. The pink bands around the top of both the globe shade and the vase are subtle and serve to accentuate the colours of the flowers rather than detract from them.
There are smaller matching motifs on the reverse sides of both the shade and the vase.
The kerosene parlor lamp is fitted with a removable “Royal” brass slip font. The font is in full working order including a wick, a flame spreader and a new chimney. There is a patent date of 1895 stamped into the post of the wick winder.
This lamp is in excellent condition overall. The only minor blemish we can see is a tiny patch of missing paint on the front of the vase that looks to be as it was made (see photo). It is barely noticeable and only mentioned for accuracy.
Height to the top of the chimney – 56cm (22″)
Height to the top of the shade – 51cm (20″)
Diameter of the globe shade – 23cm (9″)
Diameter of the vase – 24cm (9.5″)
