There can be no doubts as to when this Bridges Band composite oil lamp was made. The July 2 1872 patent date is moulded into the spill ring around the top of the font. This patent was granted to John Bridges for a mould to form a drip depression on blown fonts just like this one.

The stem on this composite lamp is hand painted milk glass. Rather than the usual floral decoration, this one has a butterfly. The other unusual thing about the stem decoration on this antique kerosene lamp is that it has a smaller motif on the reverse as well. Generally, this style of stem only had a motif on the front.

Condition

Overall, this antique Bridges Band composite oil lamp is in very good condition.

The font is free from any chips, cracks, staining or damage. The stem is also free of damage but there are some signs of wear to the hand painted decorations. Given that this is where they were held when they were moved from place to place, it is to be expected that there would be some wear. The base is black painted cast iron.

Finally, a new burner, wick and chimney have been fitted to this Bridges Band lamp.

We are sure this lovely antique oil lamp will be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
