The hand painted motifs on this font is different to what you would normally find on English kerosene table lamps from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Rather than a large motif around the font, this one has simple little flowers formed with small dots of colour that look like Forget-Me-Nots. These delicate little floral motifs add interest to the lamp without overshadowing the lovely shape and colour of the font. The flower motifs on the cast iron base are much larger and further add to the floral theme.

Condition

Overall, this hand painted amber glass font kerosene table lamp is in very good to excellent condition.

The amber glass font is free from any chips, cracks, repairs or damage of any kind. The hand painted decoration is also in excellent condition without any fading or paint loss. The brass collar looks to be original to the lamp but it has a couple of marks that look like it may have come loose at some stage and has been reattached.

The black painted cast iron base is in excellent condition and has the number 257 moulded into the inner surface.

Finally, a vintage burner and a new wick and chimney complete this English table lamp.

We are sure this lovely antique oil lamp will be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
