Iron Base Kerosene Lamp c.1870s
This iron base kerosene lamp was made in the USA during the 1870s.
The two piece cast iron base is well moulded with lovely floral motifs around the base. Whilst it is one of the more commonly seen iron bases, it is still a very elegant but understated base. The base is finished with black paint.
The pattern of the font falls into the group of patterns known as Frosted with Clear Bar. This simple but effective pattern is seen on many differently shaped fonts but generally without the dot in the middle of the bars like this one has. The font also has the extended collar which was popular during the 1870s.
Finally, a vintage burner and a new wick and chimney complete this simple but lovely antique American composite lamp.
Condition
Overall, this iron base kerosene lamp is in excellent condition.
The glass font has the customary air bubbles within the glass and a couple of very minor manufacturing imperfections on the underside. One appears to be an extra flake of glass on the surface and the other looks like a tiny burst surface bubble. Both are very small and can be felt rather than seen. Other than this, the font is free of any chips, cracks or damage of any kind.
The gloss painted finish on the base is also in excellent condition.
We are sure this lovely antique oil lamp will be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
