Brass Table Oil Lamp circa 1900
The pattern around the foot of this brass table oil lamp immediately identifies the maker as Bradley and Hubbard (B&H) circa 1900.
The pierced pattern around the foot and on the stem just below the font are to allow air to flow through the central draft tube to the inside surface of the circular wick. Air is also drawn to the outside surface of the wick through the mesh around the burner. This method greatly increases the amount of light that is produced, especially when compared to flat wick lamps.
Condition
Overall, this Bradley & Hubbard brass table oil lamp is in good condition.
There is some denting on the outside rim of the font (see pics). The lamp has been thoroughly tested, however, and it is in perfect working order without any leaks. Also, the edges of the filler cap have been flattened a little. It looks like the cap may have been seized up at some time and required pliers or something similar to free it. Again, it still works as it should and seals properly. These small problems are reflected in the price of the lamp.
The vintage opal glass shade is in perfect, undamaged condition and is free of any chips, cracks, repairs or damage of any kind.
Finally, a new wick and chimney complete this antique B&H brass table oil lamp.
We are sure this lovely lamp will be a wonderful addition to your home.
