English Cast Iron Base Lamp c.1933
English Cast Iron Base Lamp circa 1933
This style of English cast iron base lamp was popular from the 1880s through to the 1930s. They were available in a range of sizes, base patterns and finishes and font materials and styles.
This particular antique kerosene lamp is one of the smaller forms. It has a lovely, hand blown and delicately coloured clear blue glass font. The font even has a depressed “spill ring” formed in the top of it to catch any kerosene that might spill when the lamp is being filled. This was a very useful innovation and no doubt saved both time and effort.
The base is black finished cast iron which we believe to be the original finish. The floral style of the base is very similar to those shown in the Falk, Stadelmann & Co. catalogue from 1933.
Finally, the lamp is complete with a new embossed burner, a new wick and a new beaded top chimney.
Condition
Overall, this antique kerosene lamp is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or damage of any kind. There is some very minor, age appropriate wear to the surface of the glass font which is only visible under very close scrutiny.
This antique English cast iron base lamp is sure to be a welcome addition to your home or to your collection. Its simplicity is its greatest appeal.
