English Table Lamps Matching Pair
Here we have a lovely pair of completely matching, hand painted English table lamps.
The style of both the fonts and the bases suggest they date to circa 1930. The bright, hand painted floral motifs run all the way around the fonts, as does the scrolling black border between the white and caramel coloured backgrounds.
They certainly would have held pride of place in the home of their original owners.
Condition
Overall, this pair of hand painted English table lamps are in very good to excellent condition.
The milk glass fonts are free from any chips, cracks or damage of any kind and the hand painted decorations are still vibrant. There is an area on the top of one of the fonts that we first thought was fading but upon closer inspection, we now believe it is more likely to be as it was made. It looks like the artist may have dripped something onto the font that stopped the paint from bonding to the surface when it was fired.
The cast iron bases are in excellent, undamaged condition.
The pair of lamps even have the same “ENGLISH MADE” burners which could possibly be original to the lamps. They certainly aren’t new burners but without finding them in a dated catalogue, it is hard to be certain. New wicks have been fitted as well as new chimneys.
We are sure these lovely antique English table lamps will be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
