Here we have a pair of tiny Lithgow Lamps with cast iron bases and red glass fonts. The glass is a lovely rich ruby red colour and the cast iron bases are embossed all around with Kookaburras. The collar is marked “Lithgow Lamps” and the burners and chimneys are original to the lamps. We also had a pair of these lamps with dark emerald green fonts.

To the best of our knowledge these lamps were made in Asia for the Australian market but it is difficult to find very much information about the company. We have seen several other larger banquet style lamps made by the same company that also feature Kookaburras on the base and the same style of burners and chimneys.

We would have to classify these lamps as vintage rather than antique. It is likely that they were made in the 1980s to suit the decorating style of the period. As much as we would like them to be antique, they aren’t but they are still a lovely example of Australiana that is very collectable and likely to become more so in the future.

Condition

This pair of tiny Lithgow Lamps are in excellent condition, without any chips, cracks or damage of any kind. They would look lovely sitting at either end of a mantle piece or on a window sill with the light behind them. Because of their small size, it will be easy to find a suitable spot to display them. Either way, they are sure to be a welcome addition to your home or your collection
