Miller Lamp Base No.179-1/2

Product code - 0513I
Sold on 12th October 2013

The base of this lamp has been identified as a Miller lamp base “No. 179-1/2”.

On page 86 of Catherine Thuro’s second book “Oil Lamps II”, she shows an illustration from the Edward Miller & Co catalogue from 1881. The lamp in the illustration has the same base as this oil lamp but a different font.

The font pattern with this oil lamp is a variation on the ever popular “Feather Duster” pattern. The band of rosettes around the font is a perfect partner for the base and the two together make for a very attractive antique kerosene lamp.

The style of collar with the extended shoulder further reinforces the dating of the early 1880s.

The cast iron Miller lamp base is nicely decorated with scrolls and floral emblems. The raw cast iron has been lacquered for protection.

The lamp is fitted with a new burner, wick and beaded top chimney.

Overall, this lamp is in excellent condition and will be a wonderful addition to your home or collection.

Height to the top of the burner – 30.5cm (12″)

Height to the top of the chimney – 48cm (19″)

Diameter of the font – 14cm (5.5″)
