Central Glass Company Buckle var.
This lovely antique glass oil lamp was made by Central Glass Company in Wheeling, West Virginia during the early 1870s.
The pattern is a Buckle variant and the stand is the rarer plain eight scallop base. This form of stand without the Cable pattern on the underside of the base was shown in the Central Glass Company catalogue with a similar Buckle font. On this font, the clear section within the Buckle pattern extends all the way across each Buckle rather than being fully enclosed by the pattern as seen in the catalogue. The lamp also has a fine line collar that was in common use prior to 1876.
Condition
Overall, this Central Glass Company Buckle pattern oil lamp is in excellent condition.
The glass is beautifully clear and doesn’t even have any enclosed air bubbles or manufacturing straw marks. The only blemish we could find anywhere on the lamp is a small mark on the inside edge of base. It isn’t a chip or a crack and is probably as made. There is some shelf wear on the underside of the base that is consistent with usage and age.
Finally, this Central Glass Company Buckle pattern lamp is fitted with a vintage Banner burner and a new wick and chimney.
We are sure this lovely antique kerosene lamp will be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
