English Duplex Parlour Lamp
This antique English duplex parlour lamp dates to around the turn of the 20th century.
The clear glass font has a lovely raised honeycomb style pattern that is further enhanced by the hand painted decoration. The simple floral motif of leaves and berries certainly adds to the understated appeal of this antique kerosene lamp.
The tulip style shade is vintage rather than antique. We can’t be sure of the age of the shade because this style has been reproduced for many years. Our best estimate is sometime in the second half of the 20th century. Although the shade is newer than the lamp, it suits it nicely. The etched pattern around the shade compliments the font pattern and the amber tinted ruffled edge balances the gold painted cast iron base perfectly.
Condition
All in all, this antique English duplex parlour lamp is very good to excellent condition.
The cold painted cast iron base is in excellent condition. Similarly, the hand painted decoration on the kerosene font is still vibrant without any paint loss or fading. The glass of the font itself is without any blemishes and beautifully clear. It does appear that the collar has been painted at some time but it is still in perfect order.
The vintage duplex burner is in good working order and will be fitted with new wicks prior to sale. The shade holder is also vintage and without any damage, while the chimney is new.
The shade is in perfect condition too without any chips, cracks or damage of any kind.
This lovely English duplex oil lamp will look beautiful in the middle of your dining table or on a sideboard. No matter where you position it, it is sure to be a welcome addition to your home or your collection.
