This English table lamp has a beautiful hand painted custard glass font coupled with an intricately moulded cast iron base. A kerosene lamp with a base the same as this is shown in the F. Lassetter & Co. catalogue from 1900 and similar fonts are shown in the 1905 catalogue from Feldheim, Gotthelf & Co.

The custard glass font is hand painted with garlands of alternating red & blue and orange & blue fuchsias with a single leaf between each flower. There are also two thin red lines around the top and bottom of the font. The custard glass font has the added attraction of glowing beautifully under UV light.

The collar is not original to the lamp. It is an American style collar rather than an English one. It is hard to know just when this was replaced. It was not uncommon for collars to become loose or damaged and often they were replaced with whatever was at hand, though this one does look a bit more recent.

The base is black painted cast iron and the lamp is fitted with a new burner, wick and chimney.

Overall, this antique kerosene lamp is in very good to excellent condition. Apart from the replaced collar and a small amount of paint loss to a couple of spots on the red band around the widest part of the font, the lamp is perfect. There are no chips, cracks, damage or repairs of any kind.

This antique custard glass font table lamp is sure to be a welcome addition to your home or to your collection.
